Homemade Almond Milk Recipe

Recently I've switched from focusing on calories and macros, to fueling my body with clean foods. This includes working to make sure what I'm eating is as free from artificial ingredients as possible! It's been a journey of reading LOTS of labels and making choices between convenience and health... and I totally dig it!

One product that I use almost every single day... almond milk! I use it in oatmeal, in smoothies, in baking, I use it all the damn time. So when I started to read the label of the brand I was using I was shocked to see how full of preservatives and artificial ingredients it was. Emulsifiers, fake sugars, thickeners, and artificial flavors, it was a far cry from clean. Now yes, there are brands out there that are much better when it comes to ingredients, but I'm not trying to spend $5.99 on a small container of almond milk that's going to last us four days.

So... I decided to start making my own. And, I'm in love! Read on for my easy, fake-ingredient-free almond milk recipe!

1 cup of raw, unsalted, whole almonds (organic is a plus!)

Filtered water

4 dates (make sure to take the pits out)

A pitcher, blender, and a nut milk bag (here's the one I love)

Cover almonds completely with water and let soak in the refrigerator overnight.

Drain and blend softened almonds with four cups of filtered water and dates.

Strain from blender into pitcher using nut milk bag (squeeze, squeeze, squeeze!).

Add as much filtered water as you'd like for your consistency (I usually fill my gallon pitcher up).
